More Poetry…

I’ve had a good month in poetry, personally. After all, April is poetry month. I suppose it may be because the world us coming alive in spring, or perhaps because it’s the month Lee Bennett Hopkins was born.

Here’s a sample I wrote while fishing the other day…

A SNAIL UPON MY KAYAK

A small snail on my kayak,
quietly told me, “Paddle slow. “
“You’ll feel each gentle wave and hear
the stream’s soft sighs below. “

“You’ll hear the breezes whisper,
and green dragonflies’ wings clatter.
Turtles, unafraid, will stay
in place… your pass won’t matter.

Don’t miss the simple beauty
of a calm spring morning sky…
real beauty lies in stillness,
tho I cannot tell you why. “

I slowed my pace and answered,
his entreaty, right and true,
“To heed your wisdom, slow small snail,
is what I hope to do. “
